About Soil Survey and Testing Center
In 1950, in the collaboration between National Chung Hsing University (NCHU) and Michigan State University (MSU) (USA), Dr. Ray L. Cook from MSU suggested NCHU should have its own institute for soil survey and testing. According to Dr. Cook’s suggestion and after careful planning and preparation, Soil Survey and Testing Center (SSTC) was then found in 1962 and affiliated by the Department of Agricultural Chemistry (now is the Department of Soil and Environmental Sciences), NCHU. After many years of research, outreach, and customer service, the potential and capability of developing national agricultural and food safety of SSTC had been recognized by the government, and therefore SSTC was officially affiliated with College of Agriculture and Natural Resources at NCHU, which was approved by the Ministry of Education in 1980.
SSTC has been committed to providing an excellent testing quality for the customers since its establishment. The testing samples of SSTC include not only soil, fertilizer, plant, growing media, but also environmental samples such as water and industrial wastes. Over the past decade, SSTC has also targeted to the testing for vegetables, fruits, rice, etc. to keep food safe from farm-to-table for the customers. Recently, the increase of general public concern about food safety and environmental health warrants further research and development of SSTC to continue providing quality assured testing service and safety advice for the customers.
